Concept

A proactive strategy to deal with this significant clinical condition is the design and fabrication of more efficient, “smart”, multifunctional implants that will have appropriate components not only to prevent the formation of bacterial biofilm but also to promote the formation of bone/implant and bone/soft tissue interface. In I-SMarD we want to transform dental implants from a “piece of metal” that replaces lost tooth into a functional, personalised “therapeutic device” that will secure smooth rehabilitation process for the patients and long-term survival of the implant.
